In personal experience, most of the Apple "haters" I've known have fallen into the category if they could afford an Apple product, then they wouldn't hate.
Hating something is easier than openly admitting "I want that but cannot afford it", so by creating a hate figure out of the company/products, it makes it easier for the person to "accept" that they will never own the product they secretly lust after.
Cognitive dissonance is easier to "harmonise by hate" (see the oxymoron here?) than to accept with an honest mind, just like some people deal with buyer's remorse by telling themselves how much they love their new product. I was a Mac-hater long before I even knew that the price was higher for Macs than for PCs, it goes back to horrific experience with a G3 iMac, a hockey puck mouse and OS 9...

The Click Wheel interface was/is an abomination and exactly the opposite of a "good" interface. It's a horrible mess. The only usable iPod is the iPod Touch.
The click wheel interface was, in fact, a key element in the astounding (and that's putting it mildly) success of the iPod.

Apple used to innovate, right now they have acheived the goal of any capitalist company, they've hit the big time with the iPhone and are resting on their laurels.
In case you haven't noticed, they've redefined computing almost overnight. They're now building on that. They've got the competition completely flummoxed. They're pushing the industry forward with their apparent non-innovations.

...I know the media invite says "It's Showtime" and we know what the connotation is for that. But I find it interesting that the theater where the event is being held is done up with huge silhouette iPod ads, which doesn't really fit the "It's Showtime" theme, unless the new true video iPod is also going to be announced in conjunction with the movie download service. :confused: :confused: :confused:

My guess is we wouldn't have heard anything of the sort.

I don't know but I have a feeling that after all those crazy rumors we ARE gonna see the iPhone 5/4S getting introduced in WWDC in 42 days! it's just too many iPhone-related rumors for a supposedly "september" release... I mean, we don't start hearing about next-gen iPod touch/nano rumors until mid-summer... and April/May has always been the peak of the iPhone-rumor-mill!
it might be just me, but I think I'll be reviving this thread in 42 days to prove that I'm right :D

Core audio and core midi stabilized music processing at the operating system level, often driver-free, vis-a-vis OS9 or 8, and Windoze OS. X pretty much killed BeOS.

I don't think expense is the issue here.
It was more the logistics of serving hundreds of thousands of clients I was thinking of, although expense could be a factor - I would suspect that the vast majority of people who would bother to watch a live keynote stream will find out what's said anyway via another method, so little financial benefit doing a live stream.
Technically a live stream to the stores would be far more likely, but then you have human management issues - how busy the stores get etc.

Discounts no longer show up, so the sale is over. Hope everyone got a bargain. I didn't really see very many serious bargains. I bought the Airport Express for $88. But the main deals were not that great. They may have tempted some folks walking in the stores to buy a Macbook or ipod, or tempted those already waiting for those items. After paying sales tax, the discount was not that great, and serious bargain hunters could probably have done better at other resellers. But a buck's a buck, so here's to those who bought today and saved a few bucks!

Not really. There are from time to time fixes that are noticed in Darwin and ported back to FreeBSD by others, but Apple have a history of not getting involved with the projects from where they take code. The stuff about the kernel is especially weird, that's still the area where Apple and FreeBSD differ the most.

Yes. And AMD/ATI is currently working on new laptop CPU/GPU chipsets. Their first intensive collaboration. Apple and ATI have a strong link. Why not have AMD systems?
