"I love practical jokes" is just another way of saying "I don't have the intelligence or sophistication to appreciate genuine humour, but I know how to hurt people".
Morons.
Practical jokes are very possible to pull off while being humorous and not hurt anyone. It's the dumb "jokes" that hurt people (if you mean physically). I've pulled practical jokes a lot over the years and the people I did it too took it very lightheartedly and went home unscathed.
That said, I do agree that maybe once (maaaybe twice) would have been a good chuckle, but the line was drawn and passed after they did it to the moto guy. They owe him a serious apology cause that's just too harsh to have things messing up in his face. He probably spent a lot of time getting his stuff together to stand up there and jabber on in the name of his company.
My .02$, I've never read Gizmodo and will probably pass up the opportunity seeing as how they don't have much regard for reporting the news as they do BEING it.

It's their job, we just have to deal with it. A few months back, a TSA agent groped my junk. I joked with him, "Linger any longer and you'll have to buy me dinner.";) He didn't even crack a smile.
Probably the 5th time he heard that crack that shift. :)
I wonder what comment would actually get them to crack a smile. Sort of like baiting the Guards at Buckingham Palace to crack a smile.

Getting back to the actual advertisement. What self-respecting advertising professional would use someone else's tagline like that.
I had a few friends watching the football game (where we saw the ad) and half of them thought it was an iphone commercial because they were only half paying attention and heard "there's a map for that".
Pretty shoddy work in my opinion.
I disagree. It is a satirical and pokes fun of AT&T and Apple while giving facts. It gets you to think, which is the goal of an advertisement.
I like this commercial and hope it makes AT&T a little more scared that they are failing. (Or I could be bias for my love of satires and dislike for AT&T )
I think first Verizon has to back a truck full of money up to Apple's campus, then Apple has to build a CDMA iPhone :D
Just one?

I just wanted to wish OS X a very Happy B-day!! You were the reason why I went from being a PC A+ Tech working on PC's to now a mac fanatic. Because of you I now have a better understanding of how you work and function..
I look forward to many years more with OS X, but lest not forget also that your big brother OS 9 still loves you and that you came out of that sibling rivalry between your older brother..
Happy Birthday to OS X and many many more!
Proud owner of G5 Quad running OS X Tiger and Leopard, G4 Pismo running OS 9, Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, and Tiger. Power Book G4 1.67 running Tiger on one drive and Leopard on another.. and to my Mac Pro 2010 6-core for running Snow Leopard and soon Lion..
Unlike many of you, I consider my PPC macs and Intel brothers and not enemies.. one is not obsolete over the other.. so long as each on of these machines has life left in them(doing basics and other stuff you throw at them), they are NEVER truly obsolete. One testament as to why I really love Apple and Mac :)

Why not get a mini displayport straight to DVI cable? I never understood the use of an adapter. Maybe someone can shed some light?
There's a use for Apple (they can sell you both the adapter and the DVI cable, at 40$ each) ;)

Wow, so the finder is finally giving us, what other OS' had for years. I wonder what the fanboys will say now, after defending this lack of a feature for years.
I suspect along the lines that apple innovates again and creates a brand new feature :p
I don't know which iPhone users were you talking about.
Everyone wanted multi-tasking; there are hypocrites, but can't believe any body touting that multi-tasking is bad or could be bad.

really? oh man, you've got to fill us in on how it does. some screen shots please! and maybe some pics of the thing also?
i was tempted to get one, but decided to save some money for now. i might get one late this year or next year
I've finally got it folding, took a while cuz I didn't have the bios set to boot from USB-cdrom, that USB part is important :o also I tried Ubuntu 10.4 but there is a problem with folding and libc on 10.4 so I tried a copy of 8.04 that I had and it didn't want to install. I finally had to download 9.10 and after getting it installed, folding on it and configured; it works:D woo hoo! It's always something when I install Linux but I usually figure it out after a while...
I trid to go to 4Ghz but I must not have set something right and it didn't work so I went back to stock 3.33, it folded the first frame in 27 minutes which is exactly what my mac pro does: for less than half the cost. I then set it to 3.6 Ghz and it seems to be stable without upping the voltage. I hope it can do a frame in 25 minutes :p I'm waiting to see...

umm no neither is lying. They both are using the same panel but DIFFERENT backlights. Dell back lights are brighter so it allows for a larger contrast ratio and more cd/m2
edit: The panel is pretty much just a color filter. It takes the white light from the back light and filters it colors for what you see on the screen (it more complex than that but it is the simplest way to explain it)
Sorry to say this, but you're simplifying things too much. Just because a monitor has the same size/resolution, doesn't mean that the LCD sources are identical.
FYI, Apple is using LCDs from Lg.Philips, Dell's LCDs come from Samsung. As a matter of fact, the 30" from Samsung for example is an exact copy of the Lg.Philips panel that they developed for Apple: same module dimensions (even fixation holes), electrical interface, etc.
Because Dell is doing copy-paste, some of the specs are indeed identical. However, Apple displays use IPS (in-plane switching) LCD technology, while Samsung uses PVA (patterned vertical alignment). Consequence of this is that optical specs are slightly different:
- higher brightness for Dell (because of higher LCD transmission of PVA)
- higher contrast for Dell (but only perpendicular: contrast decreases very rapidly if you look off-axis at PVA-based panels)
- superior color stability for Apple (large color shift with viewing angle for PVA, especially for grey tones)
The latter characteristic is why Apple chooses for Lg.Philips, and why Apple displays are better for graphical applications, despite the slightly lower specifications on paper.

If I were CES management, I'd ban them for life. Can't imagine Apple will let them anywhere near Moscone.
It's not up to Apple. It's up to IDG. They manage the expo, they administer the expo on behalf of Apple.

Back when I was about 8, we were jacked. However it was our house and the house next to us. We lost all of our console GAMES, the system still there. The other house lost their console SYSTEM, the games still there. Its nice to know that the world has not changed 10 years later.

If you have a picture of your setup and don't mind sharing it, I would love to see the two together.
I am still in the middle of setting everything up and the monitor for example is not even out of the box yet...just been really busy. Hopefully in about 1 month's time I can share. Sorry :(

What it is that if something is on the Sunday ad then they legally need to have a minimum amount of the product in stock. If you read the fine print it would say this amount of this product in store. So I don't get all the Best Buy hate here...

I don't know of many people who buy a 500 iPhone outright. Most (Especially in the UK) will be on a 18-24 month contract.
But what's the difference when you will end up paying much more than the full price in the future?
For pay as you go people like me buying the phone outright is the much cheaper option in the long run.

Digitimes claims (http://www.digitimes.com/systems/a20061115PR207.html) that according to Taiwan component makers, there is an increase in orders for certain capacitators that are intended for use in an AMD-based Apple notebook. Few other details are provided.
The rest of the article remains speculative, pointing to comments (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060922105414.shtml) by AMD CEO that he felt that Apple would eventually come around to working with AMD.
Readers should note that Digitimes remains notoriously inaccurate (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2003/09/20030917033706.shtml) with their rumors.
