the news say intel has already made small shipment last month enough for product launches, .. in september.. apple will expect large shipment.

When I was a kid, in order to download a movie, we had to push two wheelbarrows full of blank paper six miles through the snow to the movie company's headquarters where we had to type the binary codes for the movie file out on a broken typewriter, cart it all home and retype it into the computer which would take 6-8 weeks during which we were allowed no sleep and no bathrooms breaks and only a plate of crusty, stale bread and a glass of filthy water. And when we were done, our dad would beat us around the head and the neck with a rusty railspike... if we were lucky.
(Sorry, couldn't resist carrying on with the Monty Python reference I saw starting up. :D )

I don't think the flip phones are fads. Look at all the phones on the market, and the most of them are flips. The most desireable ones are usually the flip phones and have been a while. I remember the first Nokia candybars were extremely popular but those never had that good of features and were cheap. In my opinion, flip phones are more durable (in most cases) and look better.

Except IMO its iPhone user buying iPads, not the other way around.
Having bought plenty of apps was tying me into iPhone for my next phone,
now I have an iPad - I feel less tied to iPhone and feel more free to buy an android...

OK, honestly, I just don't get this. I don't see how a Core 2 Duo laptop right now is going to be so much more 'future proof' than a Core Duo laptop. Are you anticipating some time in the near future where everyone with Core Duo laptops is going to find that no-one is making *nix for 32-bit processors or something?
No, but the thermal efficiency and performance bump are not trivial issues to me if I'm going to spend near 3,000USD on something. I'm also praying for a graphics bump, which is VERY important for futureproofing.
I mean, really now. What are you doing in *nix that a Core Duo based laptop is going to be so much less future proof than a Core 2 Duo laptop?
Ever done graphics work or gaming on a laptop? Unfortunately, I need a notebook, and I can afford one machine. Therefore, I wouldn't mind some of the enhancements that may come with the Merom update.
I don't see why you wouldn't just go ahead and order a Core 2 Duo PC laptop then now and get one soon. The only reason to get a MBP is if you specifically need to run OS X, but if the lack of Core 2 Duo is enough to make you just as happy to get a PC laptop and run Windows and FreeBSD on it, why in the world are you waiting for a MBP? It can't be that important to you if the Core Duo vs. Core 2 Duo issue is the "dealbreaker".

I've been trying to chuck windows forever but am dependent on it for a few apps that happen to run on OSX as well, but not other *nix platforms. Dual booting would suck. Well it's certainly good to see new computers, but they really are aimed at high level tasks. These machines use server technology, rather than technology developed for the retail sector.
Interesting points I see are the use of ECC RAM (this is not at all unusual for servers, but very expensive because it's usually paid for by a company's server budget), and I didn't see any mention of onboard hardware RAID, which is a bit disappointing when you've got all of this other fancy stuff going on.
I'd also be interested to see, from an environmental perspective, how its power consumption levels compare with an equivalent consumer PC.

I'm not impressed if this is where the iMac display is potentially going , the current GPUs can barely drive the resolutions they have now in anything other than simple desktop apps . , can you imagine what video card you would need to drive a game (say portal 2 which has low to modest requirements) at 30fps + on a screen with 3200 or higher resloution ? Well whatever that GPU is , apple will ship with the one released 2 years ago and half the RAM it shipped with on the PC .
I love the mac OS , I love the mac design , I hate the "last years tech with a shiney shell" we seem to have to put up with , super high res screens and faster I/O ports are all well and good , but put a decent GPU in now the mac is becoming a contender as a home gaming platform .

It's an utterly gorgeous machine, superb display, great CPU, decent RAM, sufficient HDD options. But those graphics? :eek: SP cores and clock rates aside...it should have 2GB of VRAM(frame buffer) at that res.

Not possible with current laptop architecture. The only x86 CPUs AFAIK that are capable of multi-socket systems are Opterons and Xeons.

It sort of makes you think what it would be like if Apple took a hand at other industries. This theme is absolutely fugly. Toyota basically turned the iphone into a zone.

I don't think a typical mathematician would write this on paper using a "/", rather they would use a "_". Using / on anything more complex than x/y is very poor form.
Here, I assume / is being used as MacRumors isn't set up for writing equations. So I asked myself how would I write this in _ format?
