This year is a tough one so far. Weak rumors at best. Apple has really stepped up the secrecy and plugged the leaks. Like others have said it will either be insanely great or insanely disappointing. To tell you the truth, unless some better sourced rumors surface I think it may very well be a disappointing keynote.:(

Exactly. I find it quite funny people don't understand that the "Windows" brand is referring to the windowed metaphor on desktop GUIs. So, Windows technically is just as generic as App store, considering all desktop UIs use the Window metaphor for displaying content.
But I think we'd all agree that when you hear the term windows, you think of Microsofts OS. Thats the exact same thing going on here with App store. Companies trademark "generic" terms all the time. Most trademarks ARE generic. But once it becomes used to associate a brand or product, its no longer generic.

Like I said, an iPod with a touch screen and a slide out QWERTY keyboard (a la MYLO) would be better and more portable than a laptop. As clunky as the PSP's interface is, the feature of surfing the net is still very useful and popular. Imagine how much better a MYLO iPod would be. The media player market is staurated, so if Apple intend to continue to do well they need to make the new iPod much more than a media player. Incorperating WiFi into an music/video player is almost pointless, yet is many time more useful if you can check mail, IM and surf the net. It's a natural evolution of what the iPod is. I really hope the iPod doesn't go down the line of convergence/frankenstein/jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none. It's a solid music player and it's main priority should be as such. In my experience with work colleagues and parents/in-laws the iPod is almost bordering on being too difficult as it is just with just music and video. Many never bother with video or podcasts or even firmware updates because they perceive it to be too complex. Adding slide-out keyboards, larger/deeper navigation menus, wifi connections, and email configuration would probably push it over the edge as far as being too technologically intimidating for most. Not to mention the size sacrifice.
Apple may bring something else to the market to compete if there really is a decent market for devices like the Mylo (which I'm personally not too sure there is).

Do you remember what the price was for the 1.66GHz CD 1GB RAM 100GB HD?
I think it was $849. I can't recall for sure, but I'm 90% sure it listed as 11% off original price, which is $849. Well, that had a SD in it not a CD.

Everyone is fighting over the living room now. You can bet your bottom dollar, that Apple, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are going to be knocking on your door for the next few years. If you let them in, are they going to run for the bathroom or kitchen? Not likely. They are going to be running for the living room. And they are going to be coming with cameras. They are going to want to stay for a long time. They'll want cash up front and then monthly allowances.
Who does that leave out? The one conglomerate that's never made a piece of hardware: Google. So where will Google look for help in integrating their software in living room hardware? Duh! Apple! But Apple better watch out, as soon as Google gets in the living room through Apple they'll open their services up to all hardware manufacturers and leave Apple in the dust. I just hope Apple has considered that likely possibility. Apple's like the Trojan horse which is carrying Google. We all know what happened to the soldiers inside the horse--they went and killed people. But we never hear about what happened to the actual horse. And that actual horse is Apple. Let's just hope they're full of something more than Google, or even worse just full of s_it.

and since Apple is missing the market so bad its sales have sunk to the lowest % in its history. there will come a point that it wont matter how much money is in their bank because no one will be buying the stuff. Look at iJon even he uses a PC for gaming. most people dont have a pc and a Mac so what do they buy? a PC.
It doesn't matter if they sell to a market where the won't be able to make money and will likely lose money. Apple isn't a commodity PC dealer like Dell, they dont' sell in quantity, they sellin quality. As for gaming, sorry gamers make up a small percentage of the market, and since most games are PC first/PC only it doesn't make sense for them to buy a Mac anyway. Is it getting better? Yes and maybe that will change someday, but that doesn't mean squat right now. I think Apple is doing a fine job. What frustrates me is no matter how good they do for some people its never enough, they seem to want Apple to sell a 9Ghz Quad proccesor G6 with a terabyte of ram and a 200 petabyte harddrive with dual 30" plasma screens for $299. Give me a break.

I'd rather buy than rent... but that's me. I am already ripping my dvds to disk anyway (thanks handbrake). I would guess that just like songs, we will be able to burn a dvd that will play in any dvd player... likely limiting the number of times you can burn a dvd. Of course we will be able to back up the DRMd copy. It is about time that people start considering using hard disks to back up their files and not dvd-r's. When 10.5 comes out, everyone will want an external drive to use with time machine anyway..
As for other companies coming out with downloadable movies, will they work on both mac and pcs? What DRM works on both Mac and Windows? fairplay or windows media? Maybe the mac market is small, but I wonder how the market is with people who buy media online that buy fairplay content versus WMP?

Off Topic from Lybia. In some way I think WWII (or parts of it) has become a bit too mythological. Oh, and I am personally getting tired of hearing "The Greatest Generation" line getting used all the time by prominent figures in the country.

I don't really know what you mean by "mythological", but I guess you might be talking about how WWII is in a lot of movies and such. But I think that's just because of the timeline of TV/Video advancements to rapidly spread stories about psuedo-history.
If anything, the Cold War is more "mythological". Although not many ppl (of the belligerants themselves) actually fought and died, the existance of the Cold War gave rise to such advanced technology that has made the US "mythological". Rocketry, intercontinental filght, stealth, precision bombing, spacecraft, digital imaging, computers, the INTERNET.
Before WWII I don't think you can call the US a dominant world power. If anything the British were better...and especially the Royal Navy (although today is like a pale shadow of the US Navy) was the sheet...next to the Germans some may argue, of course. The US was just "protected" by geography and was an industrial revolution giant able to covert impregnable factories into war machines. Not that the highly capitalistic nature of US business moguls didn't help, naturally.
I mean, maybe the Nuclear Age was ushered by the US, but even that wasn't because of ppl who grew up in the US. It's more credited to ppl who like fled other parts of the world to be "safe" in the US. And of course, after WWII, many more "mythological minds" were "captured" and/or "found a haven" in the land of the last man standing...to give rise to Cold War toys.

ideally i would expect something like the 480p HD trailers they have at apple.com, but given the size of these files (let's see 1.5 minute trailer at 480p (848x400 it says) is 40MB, so say, a 120 minute movie at similar bitrates would be 3.2 GB) you're going to have to rent it the night before you want to watch it just so it'll download, even at fast broadband speeds.
Your numbers are pretty close to acuritre. I used the Spiderman 3 trailer for my numbers. It's encoded at 421.8 KB/s (3.2953125 Mb). So for a 2 hour movie (120 minutes, or 7200 seconds) that's 3,036,960 KB which is 2.8839 GB. To downlaod in real time, you would need at least a 3-6 Mb connection since typically, you only get the bottom of the promised speed. This means my 1.5-3 Mb DSL conection would take roughly 4-5 hours to downlaod the movie. Not good!

1) TextEdit crashes on launch (tried trashing the prefs file - nothing)
2) cmd+left/right no longer goes to the start/end of the line :O wtf!
