We are all to blame here for jumping.
Who's this we ? My first post in that other thread was questionning the source of the rumor and asking why everyone was taking it as fact without any proof. :D
Use "I" if you must, don't include all of us in your over-reaction.

If you ask Hastings101, he might call it cheesy.
Fantastic, from so early in the thread and it should really have been /thread right there :). And yet no one got on board!
The ad is definitely that, but that's not to say it doesn't do a great marketing job.
Personally (redundant word, I know), I'm still holding back from the device for having no idea for what I would use it. Small World not having been downsized to the iPhone really just doesn't seem like enough of a use case! Maybe when the sequel comes out lol.

Its Apple's award, I think they have the freedom to set the rules as they wish. They are simply trying to encourage developers to go to the Mac App Store, don't they have that right with their award?

well. i wish apple would allow record companies to sell cd's that are copy protected, with copies of songs in AAC fairplay protected. so that people can also use them digitally.

I agree with you quigley.
Hip-Hop is very difficult to perform live. No matter how good they sound on the album live just isn't the same.
I thought Kanye did great with what he had though. And he is definately the best thing to happen to Hip-Hop since the Chronic 2001 was released.
Agreed, since the Chronic..
Great Locations think alike. (Van)
Too many haters on here sometimes.
I wasn't a huge fan of Kanye with the first album, but this new one is something special I think
One of those albums that comes along and changes sh#t
In between, I gotta bring up Outkast as well, just groups/artists that take things in different directions
Which is why I saw a connection with him performing at the event.
It didn't seem very rehearsed for one thing. And the dj wasn't really cuttin in and out on time, but Kanye was shakin it like James Brown. He was really dancing hard...kind of funny at times actually, and I think him dancing so hard also affected his vocals..
Anyway, Kanye west is a good thing...IMO
and I was just kidding about metallica they're aiiight :D

<pedantry>
Is Finder an App per se or integral to the OS?
</pedantry>
Depends what you call an OS. In micro-computer parlance Finder is very much a File Manager, same as Nautilus, Dolphin, Norton Commander (or the Midnight Commander clone), ROX-Filer, Windows Explorer, DOSShell etc just to name a few.
It does very little to "operate" the system. It simply provides a user with a UI to manipulate the files found on a filesystem. Of course, an OS doesn't even need a filesystem per say as not all OSes use the file metaphor for storage.
The OS part of the any modern OS is all contained in the kernel, which can usually operate the system without any kind of assistance from userspace. Finder is a userspace app. You could replace it with any other File Manager and still achieve the same basic functionality.
I think your pedantry wasn't as big as mine (how's your Schwartz ?)

They didn't even put up a small square on their Mac sub-page.
I do hope OS X still has a good 10 years in front of it. The best of both worlds for Unix people.

Oh i'm sure there will be LOTS of technology in the house.
I bet he'll be able to control everything via an app on his iPhone.
The house itself doesn't need to be HUGE. He can still apply a lot of technology into the house making it worth millions!

is it me or has the 20" ACD just dropped by 20 and still has the same specs as before?
Why has is dropped by $100 in the US and got better specs? o well, maybe they being lazy to update it or get rid of old stock. I think there will be some new ACDs coming soon and the Dells seem quite tempting at the moment.

Am I the only one to think that separate restroom from men and women are an obsolete relic of the past?
You're not. Look back a bit, for one of my posts.
Just knock out the wall between, put stalls where urinals are, and you're done.
Bonus: You now have both an entrance and an exit.
I r analyst. :D

http://www2.hernandotoday.com/content/2010/oct/17/ha-fdrs-warning-public-employee-unions-a-no-no/
President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the patron saint of the American labor movement, was a man of strong character. One has to look no further than the heroic way he coped with his crippling polio. This dreadful disease undoubtedly made him the consummate realist.
For example, although he had a lock on labor's vote, he expressed caution about public sector unions. In a little-known letter he wrote to the president of the National Federation of Federal Employees in 1937, Roosevelt reasoned:
"... Meticulous attention should be paid to the special relationships and obligations of public servants to the public itself and to the government. All Government employees should realize that the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service. It has its distinct and insurmountable limitations ... The very nature and purposes of Government make it impossible for ... officials ... to bind the employer ... The employer is the whole people, who speak by means of laws enacted by their representatives ...
"Particularly, I want to emphasize my conviction that militant tactics have no place in the functions of any organization of government employees. Upon employees in the federal service rests the obligation to serve the whole people ... This obligation is paramount ... A strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent ... to prevent or obstruct ... Government ... Such action, looking toward the paralysis of Government ... is unthinkable and intolerable."
Even he had enough sense to know what will happen over time.
To quote Margaret Thatcher, http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Talk:Margaret_Thatcher
Update: Margaret Thatcher, in a TV interview for Thames TV This Week [[1]]on Feb. 5, 1976, Prime Minister Thatcher said, "...and Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They [socialists] always run out of other people's money. It's quite a characteristic of them."
Basically public unions are legal money laundering operations. Follow the money: I pay taxes which go to pay the public employees who pay union dues, which the union bosses take and contribute to Democratic candidates who get elected who pass favorable legislation to benefit the public unions. Lovely system that have going. Has anybody noticed that these people could care less about where the money comes from, these protesters are whining because the cookie jar is threaten to be closed. Just love watching all these cry babies on T.V., real classy people. The runaway Wisconsin Senators are demostrating just who they really are, spoiled children.

Hey everyone, I just came to tell everyone I found out from a super secret source that there's a MEDIA EVENT TODAY!!! This is brand new exclusive news I just found out!! I wouldn't be surprised if the iTunes Music Store went down at some point, either. You heard it here first!
I won't bother to read the rest of the thread because I am sure I am the only one who has found out this information.
;) :p
I know people get really excited before Apple events, but people should still please make a quick check to see if something has been said one or a few hundred times first before posting.

Very sweet! :D I love waking up to surprises like this. Notice Apple says the iTunes Store is being updated, rather than the iTunes Music Store? I know this is obvious, but I just thought I'd point it out.
Gah, I can't wait until 1:00 EST!

Don't forget! It took Intel 6 years to really surpass AMD on performance. The current AMD Athlon is no slouch either. If it was a choice between the Athlon 64 or a Pentium 4, like it was a year ago, many here would be jumping for joy over a switch to AMD.
The reality is ,though, that Apple seems pretty satisfied with Intel right now and I believe they made the right choice. If Apple does decide to use AMD processors then it would probably be for the iTV or the Mac Mini. These things won't be competing on raw power but on quality and price. An order I believe AMD can fill.
