This discussion is a lot fun guys.
I hate these Amway and Quickstar guys with a passion. They are total losers. Though I dont have much to add to what others said before on this thread, I just want some Amway/Quickstar person to see this thread and realize what people of think of them. Doesnt matter I guess. Those guys are shameless and thickskinned.
Chanduv23, couldn't have said it better. These days, like you said, I too feel very conscious of talking to Desi people who I meet at the public places.
Some tips I collected after meeting at least 10 Quickstar jokers in the last few years. At some point I was suspecting if I was a Qucikstar magnet. :)
Common pick up lines for them are:
1) I have seen you some where
2) I'm new to the area and I'm looking for a new roommate/place to live.
3) Nice car/phone. How do you like it? I'm/my-wife-is thinking of buying exact same thing.
4) If seen at a Desi store, what movie do you suggest?
After some converstaion like what do you do etc, bang comes the question "How do you like to make some extra money after work?". Thats when you have to pick up your cell phone and answer some imaginary call and ignore the person.

Hi,
My sister is a citizen and she applied GC for my parents who are in India. She applied for I-130 in April and it was approved in 2 months. She now has to fill the form I-864 and is in the process of doing so.Meanwhile my parents would like to visit USA.They'll be coming in December and be staying for 6 mos. They have a 10 yr visa and visited us back in 2004.
My question is it ok for them to visit USA?I read that they might be denied entry becasue of their approved I-130.We do not want to apply AOS here and they will return in June 09.
Thanks for any advice.

I totally agree with you.
Think of lobbying as polite negotiation.
Think of Supreme court case as picking a fist fight, in which we are badly out numbered.
Once you have started a fist fight it is much harder to negotiate, especially from a loosing position.
This is exactly correct. It is not the question of right or wrong here. That is what gets folks so upset on this thread, they feel since their viewpoint s right then.......... Most neutral observers like mbartosik can see this as unjust and there may be many in the US as well, however certainly not the majority. However, there are many ways in which this could backfire. One example is the recently seen debate over illegal immigration and the turn in public sentiment. Truth be told, if someone did something wrong 12 yrs ago(crossed the fence), now is married to a US citizen and has 3 US children, what do you do with them? What about the 3yr old who was brought to the USA by their parents and knows no other system? Perhaps a few years ago joe public would have given them a pass, no more, the debate has become so nasty that positions have been hardened to the point that reason does not prevail. Another reason has something to do with the perceived sense of entitlement Americans sensed in the illegal immigrant community(of course fanned by Lou Dobbs and his ilk). These are complex issues and generally you will get a lot further appealing to someones sense of fairness than explaining how you are entitled to something and will take it from them if it is not given to you.

I was approached by a Quixtar "Business Owner" in Ikea. I had fallen in their trap once before and had to listen to the whole business plan and how I was wasting my life working for someone else etc. etc.
He used his signature opening line: Are you Indian?
I replied: NO
Poor fellow didn't know what to say next.

.......Even if I had said that there is fraud and corruption in India, it would not be considered as a racist comment. Every year Transparency International generates a list of most corrupt nations. Ever wonder why India is on that list. Ever wonder why out of all places only in India US visa officers are instructed to do technical interview for IT visa applicants? You are living in complete denial and trying to play the race card whenever you get an opportunity.
There may be truth in it. But not completely so. There are are lot of well qualified and experienced people. But there may be frauds too.
Fraud and corruption is prevalent everywhere incuding India and a prepondernece of the bodyshops are nothing but a factory of producing overnight "IT Talents". Accept this is as one of the problem of this retrogression.
Again it is a mixture of all kind of types coming through the consultants.
So, the issue is that there are lot of qualified and experienced people in India that are willing to come to USA to seek better opportunities ( although these says , the students from top universities of India may not want to come here ) and i believe it is not that the consultant companies dump 'all who can walk' into USA. There may be a certain percentage that are 'deficient'.
So, my main point is that , by virtue of larger population, India has larger number of graduates/employable folks. Plus many of them learn English ( if i need to communicate with people in other parts of India, i use English ) , may be with thick accent.

Can you share with us the steps (or a link maybe) to file on our own.? I have heard of Maple a lot and most of my friends in the west coast are going through them. That's why I referred their name here. Note: I am not paid to market them and they are very expensive :(
thks!!

You can easily find the steps at the official website www.cic.gc.ca . I followed the instructions on this web site step-by-steps and got GC approval for whole family in 12 months. I did not complete the final steps (pay the final fee and land to Canada for at least once), because I thought the chance to get US GC is still with us. Now I got US GC 3 weeks ago (at the crazy peak of approval June 15 June 30 , you knew it).
I made many researches about the chance to live in Canada for an ex-US H1B (asking the friends there, compare the living cost, job search in canada, visit canadian forum etc ...) and found the decision to quit US and get GC in Canada is very various and depends on individual cases/family. You have to make your own research and find Canada GC is suitable for your situation , your family or not.
for short, you can do-it-yourself the the application canadian GC, you certainly DO NOT NEED an immigration service . Paying such services could only cause your case more delays (everything get though attorneys first .....) ....

People would like to see India as land of snake charmers, cows blocking roads etc.
They can't digest IITians coming to MIT, Stanford etc. :-)
I agree man. There is shortage of skills but none of ignorance.:)

GC is for future employment....this memo is only for H1B. Otherwise you can sue them.
haha I wonder if they understand that rule. If they did, then why are they asking for pay stubs for past 2 years?

Are you even reading my posts?!
If visa numbers are increased along with elimination of country quotas ROW will not be impacted significantly. That's what has been posted a hundred times here. Yet, some of you refuse to see reason!
If IV succeeds ROW waiting times will also be significantly reduced due to combination of visa number increase and recapture. That should be the incentive for ROW.
Are you suggesting that IV's efforts would increase the wait times for ROW?
What incentive does ROW have to work with IV then?

One of my friend was so frustated with this situtation , that he even explored IT jobs in gulf countries. He was telling me IBM has big presence there & with US experience , you can get manaegerial position with almost double salary. Also its nearer from India.
Not to mention that if the offer is good and depending on the country, it is not uncommon to get a tax free salary, housing, 2 round trip tickets to one's home country for the individual and their family, in essence your major cost will likely just be food!

Sorry for pasting the below post in the wrong thread, but I thought that people not residing in MI will have the tendency to by pass the thread that WD's post was in. I felt that we need to recognize and appreciate the efforts of people who worked towards this issue. If I remember right, Mark, WD and others took their time off to testify in state senate.

"One member of Immigration Voice, a group of foreign-born professionals in the United States, describes how he came to America in 1999 as an international student and was later hired on an H-1B temporary visa. His green card application has been pending for years. He has not visited his home country for five years and recently moved to Michigan from Missouri for work reasons.
"My Missouri license will expire in days, and I can't get a Michigan driver's license. I can't walk 11 miles to work in this cold weather, since there is no bus service and I can't take time off to go to my home country" to attempt to obtain an "international" driver's license."

Thanks Thampi. Someone does not see that as funny as you. Gave me two reds. But I dont care. That was a just a joke and I did not belittle anyone.
Don't worry man. Some people take things too personal and just live in a box. This thread is hilarious and inspiring in terms of keeping our spirits high after reading all the negative stuff like waiting for another 5 years for the 485 outcome. So, keep going.

My responses are in blue
My advice to you, this forum gives members a chance to voice their problems and many members help with suggestions and experiences. IV works for relieving our problems - and if their intentions are on our side, we need to help them and not fight amongst us or them. Judge by what the administrators of this org say.
My Friend VedicMan
So let me get this straight. IV Senior members can abuse and threaten and basically talk bad about the post but i am NOT even supposed to respond to them with good words (please read all my replies)
And from your other statement, You have already decided that i am not only responsible for my post (And Yes i stand proudly by my post) but i am now also responsible for you guys abusing the post. I am goaing you !!!!! (You know for a second i did get a mental picture of me staning besides you with a stick and poking you in your stomach RESPOND TO THIS POST / RESPOND TO THIS POST / RESPOND TO THIS POST )
So the fact is my friend as i said before when some one has no more reparte to a give they end up making such posts. And as to you traditional upbringing which does not allow you to think that a gal can be confrontational as i said before you have the right to think whatever you want (Whether i am a guy or a gal or if you would like something else) that is your right and yes that thinking can also cloud your judjement (as it is doing now) but what you do NOT have a right is to decide that you are the Judge/Jury/Executioner of every thread opened on this forum
I cannot think of anyone with good intentions spending time to respond to comments that are not worthwhile.......
So senior members can abuse as much as they want and me instead of abusing back (Which you would really like me to do i know) am replying back in a calm measured response and that is once again my fault
You know with your twisted logic of justice and fair play if i am ever in court i would certainly NOT want you to be in the Jury. Infact i would not want you anywhere near the court because you might not even wait for the judgement. You would want to just go decide that i am at fault and get it done with
PS: and yes i am responding back because every response no matter how abusive or unfair like yours deserves an answer

I am finally moving to canada in 2-3 months. Deadline for landing is March 3rd 2007.
I am done with US Green Card and can not take this stress any more. Starting to sell my house and other stuff soon.
Try to get a job offer, before you move into Canada.

Wrong! Stop assuming dude. People are here because they need the Green Card. We don't take an oath to renounce loyalties when we get it. Of course your intention is clear and I am thankful that we Indians don't need to count on you. Of course, its interesting that you are quite happy being a US Citizen when it's the US which has called the LTTE a terrorist organization. Hmm, I hope you did your research. Anyway, too late. We don't need you anymore in India and like I said earlier, good riddance. All the best!
Thanks for being the self-designated, unpaid spokesperson for "we indians" and keeping track of accountable indians :)
