Seems that senators had only 1 hour to look through the 115 page manager amendment and lot of stuff was sneaked in that would not have passed otherwise... I wonder how it would stand the scrutiny of the conference. I am puzzled as to why they had to sneak-in legal immigration provisions in the last minute.... Is it that controversial ?
Manager's amend. are those amend. which are non-controversial and have been agreed to by majority bi-partisan senators. People who are calling the manager's provision as "sneaky," etc are against any immigration. This is another pretext to beat the dead horse.
It seems that you missed out on the exciting live action in the Senate.
Senate just didn't have time to discuss all the amendments and provision. This issue about who will have how many amendments was a problem issue from the start. After the motion for cloture was filed they had to end the never ending discussion and pass the bill. CIR bill was 641 page bill, addying 115 more pages is roughly 20% more. Also you need to look at the number of amendments not just the number of pages.

this is compeletely voluntary. I have contributed $50.00 so far. I think good way is to create spreadsheet showing member names and contributions, make link to it. Whoever wants to see, they can always look it. But I think we should not make it mandatory to contribute for becoming a member. Any advice / opinion is valuable for IV.

Mahatma Gandhi, bless his soul, had the balls to stand up and fight back. On the other hand, majority of our community live in the fear of their own shadows. We should stop comparing our sorry selves to that great man when we lack an atom of the courage he had.
We don't want to goto DC Rally in March as it's too cold. Summer is too hot and in the spring we have family vacations planned. We deserve the punishment we are receiving for our inaction.

Yes. GC is always for future employment.

Changing citizenship does not affect how Priority Dates are recaptured.

It is country-of-birth that matters. if your spouse is born in another country that is not subject to PD backlog, you may apply your I-485 to your spouse�s country of birth.

I am totally pissed off with this system. The only wrong step which i took was applying in EB3 when i had three years of experience. Now i have a total almost 10 years experience in IT and still waiting like an illegal immigrant for GC.

According to my employer, he is going to the Senators office tomorrow to talk to them regarding my case. Got an appointment some time this week to see them on Friday. I dont know how far this is true. They already wrote a letter to them 2 weeks back. This is what my employer says. But I dont know whether he actually contacted them or not. He said he will give me further info on monday. I have to wait and see what he comes up with ( truth or some other new story) on Monday. Then I might decide to move on to a diff employer if nothing works out.

Is there anyone on the forum who is currently doing a daily commute between Canada & US in general, or Windsor and Detroit in particular ?
Can you please share your experiences ? Good or Bad
What are the frustrations,hassles, issues in doing this.
I have heard that during work commute hours the cars kleep moving fast and officials doint delay if you have proper papers, but on weekends its a nightmare (so wont affect us).
Any real experiences you can share will be appreciated.
Also p[pl from Detroit, MI can you share info on your city. Major employers, good areas to visit/live, desi life and culture etc.

Why dont you just work for your new employer in december on voluntary basis and take the salary in Jan as a signon bonus?. This way you will have a clean record of 6 months on H1.

The aim of participation on these talk shows is two fold- One to increase the awareness amongst the general masses regarding the problems being faced by legals as the masses are mostly ignorant about out situation. Secondly, for people who are waiting for their GC's and could be potentail members of Immigration Voice for them to join the organization. It has been proven time and again that there is strength in numbers and also the organization needs resources from it's members.
It is a logistical challange to put a program like this together with the host and the panel and IV did a good job at it with knowledgebile authorities like Stuart coming out strongly supporting our cause. Every one felt that the moderation could have been better. It is the skill of Larry King or Neil Conan of NPR that sets them apart but some times there are moderators who are very knowledgible, not necessarily on every issue but are challenged becuase of their heavy accent and other reasons.
One of the posts questioned about the publicity stunt of having a senator on the program. I am not sure if every one realizes the amount of ground work that has to be done to make that happen and must I say that all the efforts were made to get them but it did not work out finally in the end because of issues with timing.
Over all, in my opinion, it was a good program and served IV's agenda.
I would like to thank IV core team for the effort of making our immigration problems public. I could not personally listen to the show and it would be nice if someone posts a link to a recording.
In addition, I know that it may not sound feasible but I have an idea to create our own Internet radio. How you all think?

At this time, no one knows how many EB-485 applications have been received by the Service Centers since July 2, 2007. Additionally, there is no way to find out how many more applications they will receive during the next 20 days. Obviously, the number of filings must have slowed down lately as affected by the AILF that they will seek certification from the court to include certain non-filers as members of the class action. Still, the number may turn out to be quite substantial by the end of July. No one knows when the "hold order" will be lifted and how long it will take to process rejection notices and mailings in the future.
Under the USCIS policy, the applicants are not required to submit any "original" evidence for filing of applications and petitions. It will thus be prudent that people may not want to submit original documents "other than medical report" as part of the supporting documentation to the EB-485 applications. Please keep original documents safe against the future need for refiling of the EB-485 applications in the future.

Unconfirmed sources indicate that because of the order, the Texas Service Center is not returning the EB-485 applications which have been received since July 2, 2007. However, there is no evidence that the decision is necessarily related to its potential decision to withdraw the rejection decision. At this point, its reasons are completion unknown. Please stay tuned.You sure abt this. I could not find it @immigration-law. Can you post the link here ?

Getting visa to go on cruise to Bahamas is not a big issue. People go in bunches to watch cricket matches when they play it in West Indies.
A travel agent will be able to answer your question.
Transit visas in Eurpoean countries is a pain and wierd rules and complex rules that very is something that gets discussed in these forums.

If you are working on H1, #2 is not an option. You will be violating immigration laws by accepting payment from unauthorized sources by doing so.
