05/26/2006: Critical Role of House-Senate Conference Committee and Importance of Selection of the Conferees
More than ever, in the Comprehensive Immigration Reform legislation, the role of the upcoming House-Senate Conference Committee will be critically important. Traditionally, once conference committee reaches an agreement, the floors of both Houses usually accepted the compromise report of the conference committee. It is thus critically important to learn who will be selected to the conference committee by each House. The key players in the selection are the Speaker of the House, the President of the Senate, Majority and Minority leaders in both Houses.
In the Senate, the floor has already decided how the conferees from the Senate will be selected. It proposes to send conferees at the ratio of 14 from the House and 12 from the Senate. On the Senate side, all the conferees will be selected from the Judiciary Committee at the ratio of 7 from the Republicans and 5 from the Democrats. On the Republican side, the Majority leader will select the seven Republican conferees and the Minority leader will select the five Democrat conferees. Without doubt, the Democrats will select the hardcore supporters of the CIR, but it is unclear who the Majority leader Bill Frist will pick on the Republican side. He may attempt to balance between the hardcore supporters and the hardcore opponents within the party. We just wish that the hardcore Republican opponents who posed a roadblock to the today's passage of the bill in the Senate as revealed in the amendment and final roll calls do not take a dominant power on the Republican side of the Senate delegaton. Readers may want to know who these opponents are by checking the voting records of S. 2611.

Why do they get the FP and Medical if they are going to expire. Why not when they are ready to give the GC. That way they can save time and money for millions of applicants. I guess that is what they do not want to do.
Technically speaking, you send your I-485 when they are "ready", which means, your dates are Current, you are eligible for a visa. Beyond that point it is supposed to be a short administrative delay, which unfortunately is extending to years...

suggest you call CIS if you have only have to reschedule your FP. I'm a NSC > CSC >NSC filer, I was out of the country when my FP arrived. So called and rescheduled after returning and received new FP's a week later.

Stop advertising a lawyer. I find him very speculative. He wants everyone to come to his site and you are falling for it.
stupid comments considering one could say the same about IV if looking at it from the perspective of some of the posts here.
If you have nothing nice to say, maybe saying nothing may be the nicest thing. Sometimes links like this are actually very useful - especially to people coming here for the first time (or first few times)

waiting from 2005 is not at all a big deal, some folks here are waiting for a decade to get a chance to apply for 485 (due to BEC black hole, having to restart GC process from scratch due to various reasons ..etc)
no offense though..
good luck :)

Andy,
Thanks for the pointer on the 539 processing.
Does the H4 approval need to be in hand if my wife were to change her status to H1? (or) Is there an option in I 129 where she can refer to the pending I 539.

IV has been doing a great job, we should all be proud of being a part of it.
I came across this post (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10316).
I think we should keep fighting till our goal is met. Can IV core team shed some light whether recapturing the unused visa numbers is ever possible ? Even if there is slightest change, we should NOT GIVE UP and work towards it. I've read that USCIS have so far wasted upto 600,000 EB visa numbers.
Now we are seeing some light at the end of the tunnel for multi year EAD or EAD validity during the period of AOS(I-485). Should we roll up our sleeves and work for the recapture of unused visa numbers ? How to make this happen, Please share your thoughts and ideas.
LETS NOT STOP UNTIL WE GET WHAT WE DESERVE!

Here is my situation, someone please suggest me:
I am using EAD to work for my GC sponsoring company and I got laid off. My HR says that they are going to inform USCIS that I am no longer working for them. HR also says that they won’t cancel my approved I-140 and going to rehire me once I get the new project.
My question:
When I joined them there is information to USCIS.I just filled I-9 form and gave it to the company, no information to USCIS. Now when I got terminated what is the need for the company to inform this to USCIS? Anyhow I am going to join them once I get the new project in couple of months. Is it a new law? Will there be any problem at the POE if travel outside US and come back using AP? Is there any chance that USCIS sends me RFE?
Thanks In Advance

Hi All,
I just joined this site today and wanted to get some input on the following situation:
My current situation is:
Working for a company ABC
completed 6 years on H1 and currently in the 7th year extension
Green card in process for more than a year - Eb3 with PD Jun 2002, I-140 approved
Can extend H1B again in about 6 months, for a 3 year extension
The question I have is , if one has a valid extended H1B for the 7th year and beyond, what happens if one were to lose their job during the extended H1B period, without getting their GC?
1) Can they continue to stay till the end of the extended H1B period by applying for a job with another company?
2) Or should they leave the USA as the first 6 years have been completed without getting a GC, and the extended H1B period would become invalid as soon as they lose the job with the company that processed the extended H1B?
Any input is appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Hey thanks for the reply. I see you mentioned one thing that caught my eye:
-- They may want to file an AC-21 letter ( stating that they have permanently employed you for this position for this salary yada yada yada ... ) and definitely a G28 to change representation on your cases in case of any RFE and other communication by USCIS.
company B is offering me a fulltime position with a 3 month introductory period in which they can fire me without having to provide any reason
- how does this affect my AC-21 application?
- Is there a period within which they have to file for this application?
- Obviously i am assuming if they fire me then i will have to ask the next employer (company c in this case) to file for AC-21?
- Also in this case does any of the 2 companies A and B have the right to revoke to I-140 or just company A?
- do i need to worry about company B messing with my application in any sort?
Thanks in advance and i would really appreciate if you could spent some time in responding to this asap

Nobody is policing here. This is to inspire some of those 8,394 "mature adults" who made no contribution yet love to surf this site. We are all starting to think that core group is wasting its time if only 212 members out of 8,606 (only 2.4 %) want to support this organization.
Your logic does not really make sense to me. If I contribute X amount, I do so because I believe in IV's cause (which is my cause too) and not because someone else has contributed Y amount.
I think we are all mature adults and not school kids, and do not require such kind of policing.
