Jobs: If people dont want to participate in things, they will be able to turn location services off. Once we get a bug that we found fixed, their phone will not be collecting or contributing any crowdsourced information. But nor will it be calculating location.
Schiller: Sometimes it helps people to understand an analogy that describes what these things are like because they are so new. I would think an analogy of a crowdsourced database is every time you walk into a retail store, many retailers have a clicker that counts how many people come in and out of the store. Nobody really cares about that because it is completely anonymous. It is not personal data. It is not anything to worry about. Its not something that people feel is private because it is really not about them. Its a coagulated total of all traffic. These crowdsourced databases are sort of like that.
_____________________________________________________________
The first part is the worlds best CEO saying "even though last time we told you turning off location services would prevent this and it didn't, this time when we tell you you can believe us"
The second part is the head of the worlds best marketing department saying "you know what, even after you ask us not to do something and we still do it, it's no biggie. It's all good because the data is ANONIMIZED!. Just to make it seem harmless I will make an inane analogy to a turnstile at a store."
Except in your analogy the the turnstile is strung around the customers neck and clocks everywhere the he or she goes.
No biggie...in fact this is all very technical and I am sure that if you explained it correctly I would be incapable of understanding.
I am most upset because I truly liked a lot about Apple. Now I feel disillusioned, more by the response than by the issue.

Apple's probably gone to DEFCON 1 after last year's prototype theft, so the iPhone 5 is delayed because everything is taking longer due to security clearances.
I would say DEFCON1, but 5 will still come out at the normal time. I think the rumor mill is going to be far less useful this year, after what happened with the prototypes and rumors last year. I have no doubt Apple is being even more secretive for possibly even going back to spreading false rumors themselves.
That said, I wouldn't expect much upgrade for the 5. Maybe faster cpu/gpu, 8mp rear cam, universal radio, antenna tweak. Other than the antenna, those are really minor changes, despite what spec-whores will say. Maybe LTE for Verizon, but that doesn't seem too likely right now since ATT and others don't have anything ready for 4G.

Being an Ohioan, I think I can say that in the current environment -- hysterical Republican budget-hacking -- this just might go through.
Which would be ironic, because it'd certainly show the Republicans for the hypocrites they are. Tough on crime -- unless it costs money!

You are exactly what the forums needed to deal with the wave of spammers that have been striking as of late. I remember one member in particular (I won't name which one) had a post average of over 60 per day shortly after being banned. I know this because I checked that user's profile. 60 per day is almost surely spamming when even Mr. Anderson can't manage more than 16 legitimate posts per day - I haven't found any more active member.
I know who you mean, and that member I believe turned out to be another member in disguise who had already been banned for spamming!

I suppose I should point out, as is inevitable, that gay men are barred from giving blood, at least in the United States.
So, while I can't participate, my best wishes to those who can. Thank you for your sacrifice!
Wow I never knew that, I can't donate I had anthrax vaccination .

White iPhone ... The hot new accessory for females this summer.
Excuse me, but I'm a guy with a White iPhone 3GS. As far as the new one I'm waiting for the iPhone 5 to upgrade. Color: haven't decided will decide in store side by side.

Of course it will not be sold better than GSM model. Do Apple realize that most of the people from around the world buying from USA, not from the oficial stores and making jailbreak or so on to use it in their local network, this is because its very expensive outside of the USA. Personally I hate that logic of Apple not to think about rest of the world, if Apple want to be a global brand so the pricing politics should be equal I think. And the second reason is that at the rest of the world there are so little CDMA networks so people won't buy it. Apples marketing strategy is very weird, they release everything late, but sometimes release a new technology like multitouch etc.
A couple of notes... the end user price of your iPhone is really driven by your carrier and what they are willing to subsidize. Also, it's very common in many industries to price things differently from country to country based on local markets. I know in our markets, we have some countries like India that we sell at about a 20% discount of the US, but in Europe, it's about 10% more expensive. Very common.

Unless you made the music and the video, you have no rights to it. You need to contact either: 1. a lawyer; 2. the recording company; or 3. a lawyer.

You will get the same message if you use Blizzards Mobile Authenticator, I'm sure it has to do with keeping your private info safe.

There is certainly no official support for it and I've never seen it attempted, but maybe it would work.
You would still only be able to use 4 memory slots if that was why you were thinking of it being something worth doing. So the only benefit is in a financial one if you were upgrading.

Usually I never encountered such a thing...
But that is exactly the point... 'Usually' is already no enough for a back-up medium.
The coaster rate for me is around 1:4 for the old burned CDs.
Just check your old CDs for fun. I am pretty sure you'll find some little surprises, also called 'read errors'... ;)
Sometimes just a few files are screwed, but if these files happen to be the file map in the root, the CD definitely has a new life as a coaster.. ;)

I installed untrackerd.
So since there is no answer to my earlier question, I take it that the posters who take issue with the tracking have not bothered to correct the issue on their phone and desktop, which would seem like they care more about posting complaints than being tracked.

Yep! As long as you tag your music correctly (ie. have the song, artist and album names set).

Hi Guys and Girls,
Just thought I'd mention that the highly respected PC website "Tom's Hardware Guide" has just posted an absolutely GLOWING review of the Mac Mini on its website today...

You don't pay for updates, Tweetie 1 had 7 free updates. Updates within the 2.0 version number will also be free. Same as EVERY piece of software for the desktop.
exactly - people don't realize this yet with iphone apps because it's still relatively new and most apps get minor updates for free - very few have done a complete version revision of their software. probably over the next year, this will become more common and people will figure this out and quite whining.
but then again...people love to complain...but over $3 - seriously come on people...

They can also be flashed in a Mac, using a (Mac) PCI video card to provide video during the flash. That's what I did with my 9800XT.
